Donald Trump kicked up a controversy by calling Milwaukee a “horrible city” in a meeting with House Republicans in Washington. The former president’s niece Mary Trump, a psychologist, on Thursday took potshots at her uncle for the disparaging comment about a city that has been a stronghold for Democrats in the key swing state of Wisconsin.

Will Trump Walk Back? Mary Trump wished her uncle good luck in walking back on the comment as the Republican National Convention is scheduled to be held in Milwaukee on July 15. The GOP Congress members will now be at a loss as to how to spin the former president’s “destructive comment,” she said.

“I'm sure at some point we'll be told we can't take him seriously or literally,” she added.

If asked about the comment, the presumptive Republican candidate may try to change the subject by ranting about the results of the 2020 election or the problem with windmills, Mary Trump said. “Whether he denies or deflects or doubles down, he actually does hate Milwaukee. We know this because he hates all of America.”

Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment.

Mary Trump also reminded her readers of past instances when her uncle insulted and attacked places like Philadelphia and Baltimore. “Part of his slow-rolling coup was his attempt to have votes from those cities thrown out.”

The psychologist said his uncle trashed New York, which was home to him for the first 75 years of his life, following the criminal trial that was brought against him in the city. “If he hates his own hometown, it's a safe bet that he hates yours too,” she said.

“But perhaps more than anything, the convicted felon, whom Republicans have chosen to lead their party, hates Americans. If he gets back in the White House, he's going to spend four years showing us just how much,” the podcaster said.

Out On Retribution Path: Mary Trump said her uncle is not a complicated person and can be easily maneuvered and that he hates everyone who is not servile. He hates the 81 million Americans who did not vote for him in 2020, she said.

“Revenge (and staying out of prison) is one of the driving forces behind his entire campaign,” she added.

The psychologist contrasted her uncle’s stance with that of President Joe Biden. Despite his only surviving sons being of three felonies in a Delaware court, the president said, “I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.” 

“When Hunter's guilty verdict was announced, his father didn't throw him under the bus. But neither did he attack the rule of law. He found a way to show his support for both. That's real love. And that's patriotism.”

She also expressed hopes that the American people will see through her uncle, who thinks patriotism was “grabbing the American flag inappropriately, tear-gassing peaceful protestors, and undermining the institutions that are foundational to our democracy.”

 A poll conducted by Florida Atlantic University Political Communication and Public Opinion Research Lab and Mainstreet Research between May 30-31 showed Biden slightly ahead of Trump in Wisconsin, although among likely voters led by a mere one percentage point.
